Keene State College's Redfern Arts Center presents Sandglass Theater's acclaimed dark comedy Richard 3.5: Light Ruminations on Murder on Friday, January 28, at 7:30 p.m. in the Main Theatre. The performance will be followed by a question-and-answer session with the company. Ticket prices range from $13 to $7 for the general public, or $5 for Keene State students.

Sandglass Theater's co-founder Eric Bass collaborates with acclaimed physical comedian Bob Berky for a bold revision of William Shakespeare's Richard III. In Richard 3.5, the Bard's epic tragedy is retold as a cabaret, complete with seven high-spirited musical numbers. The evil King Richard gives television interviews, competes in a pie-eating contest, and sings and dances his way through no fewer than 11 murders. In typical Sandglass fashion, Richard's victims are transformed into ghostly wax puppets - but as Richard soon discovers, each of these puppets is not easily destroyed.

An internationally renowned theater company based in Putney, Vt., Sandglass Theater has delighted audiences young and old since its inception in 1982. Their performances blend puppetry with live performers for shows that range from delightful family fun to sinister adult entertainment. A recipient of multiple international arts awards, Sandglass has toured in 24 countries. In addition to their traveling repertoire, the company also offers puppetry and performance workshops in its own 60-seat renovated barn theater in Putney.

This performance is funded in part by the New England States Touring program of the New England Foundation for the Arts, made possible from the National Endowment for the Arts Regional Touring Program and the six New England state arts agencies.
