The Park Theatre is partnering with Sunflowers Café in Jaffrey for "New Year's Day Brunch with Fred." The film portion of the event will be presented at a private "sneak preview" of the new River Street Theatre, a project of The Park Theatre.

New Year's Day celebrators are invited to make reservations for the special New Year's Day Brunch at Sunflowers Café on Main Street in Jaffrey. This special brunch begins at 12:30pm on Sunday, January 1, 2017. Guests then walk around the corner at 1:30pm to 6 River Street, home of the new River Street Theatre. There they will have, coffee, tea and cookies followed by a showing of the 1941 musical extravaganza film "Second Chorus" starring Fred Astaire, Paulette Goddard, Burgess Meredith and the Artie Shaw Band Orchestra. The film has recently been restored to high definition quality.

Guests order off the New Year's Day brunch menu, however, they must make a reservation in advance to include the cost of the movie at no additional charge and reserve seats for the movie. Reservations may be made by calling Sunflowers at 593-3303 or by calling the theatre box office at 532-8888.

The new River Street Theatre (or RST) is a project of The Park Theatre. In anticipation of the construction and opening of the new Park Theatre performing arts center, the RST will be a small, intimate theatre venue to "bridge" the construction project until the new theatre complex opens.

The RST boasts only 30 seats, but it has new, extremely comfortable & upholstered wide seating, HD digital projection and sound plus the best concessions around. Every week The RST will present new independent films, inspiring and educational documentaries, fresh foreign films, and classic films from Hitchcock to the Coen Brothers.

Additionally, the RST will have live music nights, stand-up comedy, magicians, programming for children as well as readings from new and classic plays. All offered at affordable prices.

While the RST makes the claim, "New England's Smallest Theatre... and proud of it." the interim theatre promises programming that is always entertaining, innovative and fresh. The River Street theatre will have its official grand opening in mid-January.

The River Street Theatre is sponsored by Grove Street Fiduciary, Coca-Cola, the Board of Trustees of the Park Theatre, Janet S. Grant and Owen Houghton. The Park Theatre is seeking additional sponsors for the RST. Interested businesses and individuals can contact Steve Jackson at 532-9300.

The Park Theatre first opened in Jaffrey in 1922 and was the center of community life as a movie and vaudeville house for 54 years until it closed in 1976. Purchased by The Park Theatre, Inc. in 2006, it will be rebuilt as a state-of-the-art film and performing arts center, featuring two auditoriums seating 475, presenting movies, live theatre, including children's productions, concerts, and lectures as well as offering a place for business and community gatherings for the Monadnock Region and its 100,000 residents, school districts and dynamic artistic community. The new theatre is scheduled to be opened in 2018.
