Are you serious about learning the craft of theatre? Are you searching for more-in-depth training? Would you like to learn a variety of acting techniques, and also have opportunities to study directing, script analysis, theatre history, stage management, technical theatre, educational drama and design? Then NHTP's Youth Repertory Company is for you!
Created in 1999, the NHTP Youth Repertory Company is designed for passionate, gifted students who want to experience a professional theatrical community that is focused on technique and individual personal growth. NHTP alumni have gone on to attend a variety of prestigious colleges including UCLA, Tisch School for the Arts, Marymount Manhattan, Oberlin, Bennington, Dartmouth, and Harvard. Alumni are working professionally in performing arts, theatre design, education, and business. At NHTP I learned responsibility, passion, and achievement... Every day I use the skills you've taught me in communication and presenting myself. (alumni Nora Happny).
The NHTP Youth Repertory Company is offered in trimesters. In the fall, both Senior (ages 13-17) and Junior (ages 10-14) focus on technique with a final showcase presentation. The winter trimester features performances. Seniors will present The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde in March, and in April, Juniors will perform Hitched to Everything, a new work about the history of environmental activism by Jes Marbacher. The spring trimester concludes with a story theatre production geared for youth and families.
NEW THIS YEAR! NHTP has added two new programs for 2017-18: a Playwright's Lab and the NHTP Tech Troupe. Students in these programs will focus on the craft of writing for the stage, and on design (lighting, scenic, sound, costumes).
Participation in the NHTP Youth Repertory Company is by audition only. Auditions for New Hampshire Theatre Project's Youth Repertory Company will be held on Tuesday, September 12 and 19, 4:00-7:00 pm & Wednesday, September 20, 4:00-7:00 pm at West End Studio Theatre, 959 Islington Street, Portsmouth, NH. For auditions, please memorize two contrasting 1-2 minute monologues, and bring a headshot and resume, or list of theatre experiences and related skills. Students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian as auditions will include a short interview with student and parent or guardian. Audition slots are 15 minutes.
Thanks to a generous endowment from the Cherylanne Williams Scholarship Fund at the NH Charitable Foundation, some scholarship opportunities are available each year to both the Junior & Senior Companies. Scholarship awards are based on both merit and financial need. Please inquire for additional information.
