On Friday, April 6, The Music Hall welcomes to the stage #1 New York Times bestselling author C.J. Box, who has sold more than 10 million novels in the U.S. alone. He'll talk about THE DISAPPEARED, his latest western mystery featuring Joe Pickett, as part of The Music Hall's Writers in the Loft series.
The 7pm event includes an author presentation and moderated Q+A, plus a book signing and a meet-and-greet. It will be held at The Music Hall Loft at 131 Congress Street, in downtown Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
"For years, I've been hearing about C.J. Box and his character Joe Pickett, the Wyoming game warden who's taken on environmental terrorists, rogue federal land managers, animal mutilators, cowboy hitmen, corrupt bureaucrats, and violent dysfunctional families. By all accounts, Pickett always 'does the right thing,' and I'm guessing that's why so many Seacoast readers have been asking for him and C.J. Box," said Margaret Talcott, producer of Writers in the Loft and the evening's moderator. "The popularity of Box's work keeps growing - he has won every major prize in the crime fiction genre and sold more than 10 million books in the U.S. alone. I'm excited to welcome him to Portsmouth and thrilled to be continuing our focus on Western-inspired fiction in the Loft - our 2016 event with Craig Johnson and his Longmire book was such fun!"
ABOUT THE BOOK
Joe Pickett and his family need to rebuild their lives and home after death and destruction rained down on them two years ago. But in the brutally cold Wyoming winter, there is always enough malfeasance on the contemporary frontier to keep Joe's mind off his own troubles.
Joe is surprised to get a call from Governor Allen asking him to undertake an investigation - he and the new governor did not exactly hit it off during their one previous encounter. Allen wants Joe to look into the disappearance of Kate Shelford-Longden, a wealthy English woman who had been staying at Silver Creek Ranch but vanished after checking out of the luxury resort. Pickett knows that happens sometimes - these ranches are stocked with handsome young cowboys, and "ranch romances" are not uncommon, but months have passed and local law enforcement has come up short.
The disappearance of "Cowgirl Kate" is not the only trouble Joe encounters. At the same time, his friend Nate Romanowski has asked Joe to intervene with the feds on behalf of falconers who can no longer hunt with eagles even though their permits are in order. And to top it off, there's something suspicious going on at a burner at a nearby lumber mill, where neighbors have smelled the distinct odor of incinerated hair and flesh.
As these cases converge, Joe Pickett once again finds himself at the center of greed, violence, and deadly intentions.
