An unflinching play about redemption, forgiveness and the lasting scars of slavery, The Whipping Man is the story of Caleb DeLeon, a wounded Jewish Confederate soldier returning to his home in Richmond at the close of the Civil War only to find it in ruins. The house has been abandoned by everyone except Simon and John, two former slaves, who were raised as Jews in the DeLeon home. As the three men reunite, they uncover deep-buried secrets... ties that bind them together and that, ultimately, could cost each man his freedom.
Mr. Blacque is joined by fellow cast members Robert Douglas and Will Howell. The play will be directed by Howard Millman. Millman, Douglas and Blacque worked together in 2014 on a production of The Whipping Man at the Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe in Sarasota, FL. A show hailed by the press as "one of the finest productions" that the WBTT has ever presented.
Peterborough resident Will Howell joins the cast in the role of "Caleb". Howell, a former Players intern has performed throughout New England and was recognized in 2015 by the Kennedy Center for his role in Keene State College's production of Equus.
