Seacoast Repertory Theatre is presents storyteller/singer Denise Whittier in her award-winning theatrical cabaret STORY SONGS for one show only on Sunday, October 25, 2009 at 7 pm.
Although Ms. Whittier is new to the Seacoast scene she is often called “Vermont’s living legend!” Awards and recognitions for STORY SONGS range from Vermont Film and Theatre Industry’s award for “Outstanding Cabaret Performance” to California’s Just Plain Folks Music Awards choosing the STORY SONGS cd as one of the top ten cabaret CD’s of 2006. The sassy, sophisticated one-woman show is described as “a carefully curated collection of dramatic and delightful, touching and tuneful, intelligent and insightful cabaret songs written by a variety of front-line contemporary Broadway, Off-Broadway, and Cabaret composers and lyricists.”
Stu Hamstra, of Cabaret Hotline.com, the “go to person” for all things cabaret in NYC and across the country, reviewed STORY SONGS as “exquisite,” and Chicago’s Jeff Rosen writing for NYC’s Cabaret Scenes Magazines reviewed the Story Songs CD as “a beautifully captured live recording of her cabaret show that should be required listening for any artist considering a similar venture.”
Ms. Whittier has a long resume of acting and singing both as the leading lady and character parts on prime Vermont stages and concert scenes across four genres: Broadway, Cabaret, Gilbert & Sullivan, and Jazz Standards repertoires. While living in Burlington, VT Ms. Whittier did numerous performances to benefit youth centers and young people in the arts. Extending that tradition, Ms. Whittier will generously donate all proceeds from her debut performance on the Rep stage to scholarships for the Rep’s Youth Apprentice and PAPA Camp Programs.
Generously sponsored by Staples at the Crossings at Fox Run and Donahue, Tucker, & Ciandella - Attorneys at Law, STORY SONGS will be performed on the Rep stage October 25, 2009 at 7pm.
