The Weathervane Theatre, a professional, award winning, equity theatre in Whitefield, NH, is thrilled to announce the 2018 53rd Summer Season of alternating rep. Under Co-Artistic Directors Ethan Paulini and Robert H. Fowler and Managing Director Rhonda Picou, the Weathervane will present 8 weeks of musicals, comedies and classics. In addition to Main Stage productions, the Weathervane keeps the calendar full with a variety of other programming for audiences of all ages.
Opening the season on July 7 will be the popular favorite Bubble and Squeak. This annual evening of song introduces North Country audiences to the incredible resident company of artists that will bring the productions to life. Curtain is at 8pm for this one night only event.
July 10 welcomes Ariel, Sebastian and the evil sea witch Ursula to Whitefield for the first time with Disney's The Little Mermaid. Based on the Hans Christian Andersen story and adapted into the beloved animated film by John Musker and Ron Clements, this spectacular musical will delight all ages. Featuring Music by Alan Menken, Lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater and Book by Doug Wright. Disney's The Little Mermaid will be directed and choreographed by Ethan Paulini.
On July 11, Larry Shue's side-splitting comedy, The Foreigner returns! After 30 years as one of America's most popular comedies, this fast-paced and smart comedy remains as relevant as when it was first produced in New York. Broadway veteran Amiee Turner joins the Weathervane family to direct this evening of laughs!
Always, Patsy Cline featuring over 30 classic songs from the country/pop icon takes to the stage on July 14! Chronicling Patsy's fabled career and untimely death through the eyes of one of her devoted fans, this popular musical songbook by Ted Swindley is sure to be one of the highlights of the season. Directed by Diane DiCroce.
"....and all that jazz"....Chicago, the Bob Fosse, John Kander and Fred Ebb classic, joins the repertory on July 23. You don't have to travel to the Big Apple to see the Broadway production, which now holds the record as the longest running American Musical in history! Roxie, Velma and the rest of the merry murderesses will "razzle dazzle" you right here in your own backyard. Amiee Turner returns to direct and choreograph.
Last seen on the Weathervane stage in 1992, Thornton Wilder's 1938 Pulitzer Prize Winning masterpiece Our Town brings the inhabitants of the fictional New Hampshire town Grover's Corners thrillingly to life. Opening on July 31, Diane DiCroce expertly stages this beautiful piece of American literature.
Winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical, Monty Python's Spamalot gives deeper meaning to the term "musical comedy". With Book and Lyrics by Eric Idle and Music by John DuPrez and Eric Idle. Weathervane alum Taryn Herman returns to direct and choreograph this lavish, laugh-a-minute Broadway smash!
Capping off our season will be Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's pop infused musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Co-Directed by Ethan Paulini and Colin Keating and Co-Choreographed by Robert H Fowler and Jonny Rouse. With a cast of 41 including a 16 member children's choir, Joseph is sure to round out season 53 with a colorful and energetic bang!
The season will close on September 1 with the annual tradition Best of 2018. The title says it all, the most popular moments from all of the season's productions! Two shows only at 2pm and 8pm.
In addition to Paulini and Fowler, this year's resident equity company includes alums Shinnerrie Jackson and Alaina Mills along with Jessica Booth, Jake Bridges, John Jeffords, Marisa Kirby and Alexander Molina. Joining them in the professional company are alums Colin McCarthy and Jonny Rouse with Isaiah Reynolds, and Kelsey Schergen.
Every Friday at 11am, the Patchwork Players present original musicals for family audiences! This year's line up includes Miles Burns' Aladdin and The Upside of Being Down, Joe Barros and Rick Edinger's Alice in Wonderland (World Premiere prior to it's Off-Broadway run in August) and Patchwork Patrol written by the company themselves and featuring pop music! The intern company, which also appears in several main stage productions, includes Alicia Babin, Jennifer Brett, Drew Bondy, Theo Edwards-Butler, Josh Bryan, Michael Donovan, Jack Dwyer, Renee Gros, Leo James, Ally Merrill, Daniel Wallentine, and Lindsey Young. Look for Patchwork Players on the road at various venues throughout the North Country. On Friday, August 31 at 4pm, the interns present their Cabaret Showcase featuring dozens of songs from all genres performed with all the energy and talent you come to expect from the Weathervane Intern Program.
In addition to everything going on inside the theatre, this year we introduce Tuesdays on the Deck, a free live music series featuring company and local talent. This event will take place every Tuesday at 7:15 beginning on July 17. Mix and mingle before the show or just stop by and take in some tunes.
Aah-Ooh-Gah! Windsock Theatre Camp is now enrolling. Starting July 30, Whitney Jewett and her staff are back with camp programs for all ages. Each week long program culminates in a show on the Weathervane stage!
The resident artists is a mix of returning veterans and new and exciting artists. Justin Parks returns as Production Manager. Resident designers include alumni Rien Schlecht (Costume Design), Christopher Carter (Lighting Design) and new designers (Properties Design), Isaiah Parnell (Sound Design). Colin Keating will once again serve as Musical Director.
The Weathervane Theatre was founded in in 1965 by Gibbs Murray and the late Tom Haas. For over half a century, it has presented high quality professional productions of plays and musicals. One of the few remaining alternating rep companies in the United States, the Weathervane is recognized as a historical institution nationwide, boasting among it's alumni Elizabeth Stanley, Tally Sessions, 4 time Tony nominee Judy Kuhn and recent Tony Award Winner Ari'el Stachel.
