The Capitol Center for the Arts' 2016-17 Lincoln Financial School Series debuts November 2 with New Rep's Classic Repertory Company's production of Nathaniel Hawthorne's classic The Scarlet Letter. When Hester Prynne commits an act of adultery, she is isolated and shamed by her community. Wrought with guilt that is veiled by piety, can she reconcile her duty with her desire?

The School Series exposes New Hampshire schoolchildren to the performing arts and connects to key curriculum objectives such as creative writing, communication and language arts development, and storytelling. Tickets are $7 per ticket. A minimum of one chaperone per 20 students is required. One free chaperone ticket is provided with every 20 paid tickets.

"A live theater experience is very special for young people," says CCA Executive Director Nicolette Clarke. "Children easily enter that magical place where artists and audiences become one. Whether it is a play based on a book of children's literature or a science experiment camouflaged in magic, the Capitol Center provides experiences that stimulate the imagination, encourage critical thinking and support learning across the curriculum. This caliber of programming would not be possible without the support of Lincoln Financial."

The 2016-17 School Series comprises:

Nov 2 - The Scarlet Letter
Nov 10 - The Ugly Duckling
Nov 29 - We the People
Dec 13 - Amahl and the Night Visitors
Jan 18 - Doktor Kaboom! LIVE WIRE! The Electricity Tour

The Capitol Center for the Arts (www.ccanh.com) inspires, educates, and entertains audiences by providing a quality venue for the performing arts as well as a wide range of professional-level, artistically-significant presentations. The Center is conveniently located off Rt. 93 in downtown Concord, New Hampshire and is close to several quality restaurants, shopping boutiques, and other area attractions. The facility first opened in 1927 as the Capitol Theatre, a prime stop on the Vaudeville circuit; it later became Concord's premier movie house and concert hall. After closing in 1989, it underwent a multi-million dollar renovation / modernization and reopened in 1995 as the Capitol Center for the Arts. Today, the Capitol Center is home to the 1304-seat Chubb Theatre, the Spotlight Café, The Governor's Hall ballroom, and the Kimball House, a Victorian mansion.

The Lincoln Financial Foundation, established in 1962, is a nonprofit organization formed and supported by Lincoln Financial Group. Under the Foundation guidelines, grants are made in the areas of arts, education, human services, and economic/workforce development. The School Series at the CCA is part of Lincoln Financial's annual $10 million investment in its local communities' youth education, economic, and workforce development, human well-being, and arts programs.
