Capitol Center's 2015-16 Salon Series Welcomes Filmmakers Esy Casey and Sarah Friedland on 4/15

The Capitol Center for the Arts is pleased to welcome two award-winning filmmakers, Esy Casey and Sarah Friedland, to the historic Kimball House as part of 2015-16 Salon Series on April 15 at 7:30pm.

Esy Casey is a Filipino American filmmaker. Her cinematography work can be seen in May on PBS in the upcoming films BORN TO FLY on Independent Lens (2014, with DPs Albert Maysles and Kirsten Johnson, Dir. Cat Gund) and BEFORE YOU KNOW IT on America Reframed (2014, Dir. PJ Raval). Her directorial debut JEEPNEY (2014) will premiere on the World Channel program Filipino American Lives, was nominated for Best Documentary at CAAMFest and won the jury prize for Best Cinematography at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival. She is the recipient of awards and fellowships from organizations including The Princess Grace Foundation USA, The Ford Foundation's JustFilms Initiative, and The Center for Asian American Media.

Sarah Friedland is a New York based filmmaker and the Director of Film and Media Program at Wagner College. Named one of the top 10 filmmakers to watch by The Independent, her film THING WITH NO NAME (2008) was funded by grants from The Jerome Foundation, The Paul Newman Foundation, The William H. Prusoff Foundation, and was nominated for Best Documentary at the Los Angeles Film Festival. It was distributed on Netflix, Amazon and iTunes. She is a recipient of the Paul Robeson Award for her film THE RINK (2013), which will air on PBS in spring 2016. She is currently a Professor and the Director of the Film and Media Major at Wagner College.

This performance is part of the Capitol Center's Salon Series, bringing artists and audiences together for thought-provoking lectures and performances in the intimate, Victorian-era Kimball House.
