The Black Box Theater Company will be sharing the story of Matthew Shepard as told in the powerful play The Laramie Project. Matthew Shepard was a gay teen beaten to death because of his sexuality. He was tied to a fence, tortured, and left to die alone in Laramie, Wyoming on October 6th 1998. Shortly after, Moises Kaufman and members of the Tectonic Theater Project visited this small town in search of some answers. After conducting over 200 interviews with locals, friends, and family, the theater project created a play to share this tragedy with the rest of the country.

Black Box Theatre Company in association with the Seacoast Repertory Theatre showcases the talents of its members and provides them with the opportunity to learn about theater by taking the responsibility of managing a company and mounting full-scale dramatic and musical productions. The members, ages twenty-one and under, are the decision makers in all business and creative aspects of the company with the guidance and support of Seacoast Repertory Theatre's professional staff. Black Box includes all young adults and teens that desire to participate and embrace the concept of a learning experience in a theatrical setting.

The Laramie Project is sponsored by Foy Insurance and City Shoes. Performances of The Laramie Project will be held at the Seacoast Repertory Theatre on Tuesday, February 22 and Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at 7:00pm. Due to the nature of the subject matter, this show is for mature audiences only.

Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door.
