Choreographer Krzysztof Pastor, known from our own National Ballet, translated Shakespeare's tragic love story of the 20th century. And he does inimitable way. He originally made it for the Scottish Ballet and now Romeo and Juliet can be seen at the Joffrey Ballet in Chicago and his Polish National Ballet. An absolute worldwide hit, appearing in the Netherlands exclusively in the South Beach Theatre.
2014 Marked the 450th birthday of William Shakespeare and in 2016 it will be 400 years since he died. A good occasion for the Polish National Ballet to take his work on the repertoire and thus show his importance to the development of ballet.
Shakespeare's tragic love story
Romeo and Juliet are the archetypes of the tragic love. Their surroundings, friends and family have conflicting interests and force them to give up their love. The story of the younger generation, which is the victim of the errors and misfortunes of the generations that preceded them is timeless. Although he fully follows Shakespeare's original version, Pastor clearly has a political message. He moved the story to the Italy of the twentieth century, but retains the captivating music of Prokofiev.
That music is inspired version of the best-known compositions in the famous love couple.
family Feud
The tragedy Romeo and Juliet (1595) deals with Romeo and Juliet Capulet, two scions of warring family clans, but it might as well go on the struggle between Catholics and Protestants, Muslims and Jews or any other group whatsoever. To emphasize the timelessness of history Pastor siting it in three different periods in the twentieth century. He starts in Mussolini's Italy in the 30s, then the optimistic 50s to finish at the end of the 20th century.
