On Friday, May 27th shows the legendary icon of India, flautist Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia a concert in the Nieuwe Kerk in The Hague.
The world famous musician has over 40 years of a very special relationship with the Netherlands. Because of its variety of musical merits, he also bears the honorary title of 'Officer in the Order of Orange Nassau.
Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia is recognized worldwide as the best flute player in the North Indian classical music. His musical play is infused with devotional and meditative aspects. With his solo playing on the bamboo flute he has enraptured outside India for many music lovers.
Chaurasia is like the -inmiddels overleden- famous sitaarspeler and composer Pandit Shankar (92), a renowned ambassador of Indian music in East and West. Along with Western classical musicians like Yehudi Menuhin and Jean-Pierre Rampal and popular guitarists such as George Harrison, John McLaughlin and Larry Coryell, saxophonist George Brooks and harpist Gwyneth Wentink he frequently shared the stage. In India, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia awarded one of 25 living legends.
