The Miracle Worker, written by William Gibson, presents the familiar story of Annie Sullivans determination to bring Helen Keller the gift of language and free her from the isolation of her dark and silent world. During their journey together, Annie begins to contend with her own emotional barriers. In the plays powerful finale, Annie manages to push one word into Helens mind water and Helens mind opens to the flood of language and ideas and the world around her. In releasing Helens mind, Annie also frees herself from the prison of her memories of a difficult and painful upbringing, and the loss of her beloved brother Jimmy.
Directed by Heather Alexander, The Miracle Worker features Amanda Smith in the title role of the spirited and stubborn Annie Sullivan, and Zoe Garner as Helen Keller, her deaf-blind pupil struggling both to communicate and to be understood. The cast also includes Doug Allen and Terra Buschmann as Helens parents Capt. & Kate Keller, Kevin Oziminski as Helens brother James, and Jeff Lay as Annies mentor Dr. Anagnos.
