Musical Theatre Master Class: Successful Song and Dance Auditions
Ages 14+
April 6, 2024
1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Community Meeting Room A, Brentwood Library
WIT Nashville is thrilled to continue our master class series with Nashville-based director, choreographer, and theatre artist Casey Hebbel! She began performing professionally at age thirteen and has since appeared in nearly thirty Equity productions all across the country, from New York City to California. She's now a professor of musical theatre at Belmont University and recently assistant directed Nashville Repertory's production of 9 to 5, as well as continuing to serve as a director and choreographer for various theatres and colleges around town. She'll also be directing at The Muny in summer of 2024.
-Each participant will learn from Ms. Hebbel's wealth of experience in an opening information session, so come prepared to take notes.
-Students will then perform a short musical selection with a live accompanist and receive personal feedback. (See below for song requirements.)
-Ms. Hebbel will then focus on how to pick up dance routines quickly, incorporate style, and speak the language of any choreographer.
-You'll also find out how to dress for the audition, display professional etiquette in the room, and more.
-Finally, students will have the opportunity to be part of a Q & A with Ms. Hebbel, so come prepared with your burning audition questions.
With 15+ years of experience in professional theatre, both as a performer and on creative teams, Casey is excited to share a wealth of tips and tricks for crafting a successful musical theatre audition!
How to Prepare:
Music: One audition piece consisting of 16-32 bars of sheet music from a musical theatre show in your correct key. Please arrive totally comfortable with your song choice so we can help you explore performing the song in a new way! Music should be in a binder and clearly marked for our accompanist.
Headshot and Resume: If you have them, please bring your most up-to-date headshot and resume.
Dress to Impress: Please come dressed as you would for a general theatre company season audition and bring a change of clothes for the dance portion.
Registration is limited to 10 fully participating students at $30 each and up to 10 additional auditors at a reduced admission rate of $15 each. All applicants must be 14+ years old and female-identifying. SCHOLARSHIPS are available! Email womenintheatrenashville@gmail.com to apply.
