Playhouse 615 is thrilled to announce the world premiere of Aunt Sally's Wild Ride, a new Southern family comedy by acclaimed Nashville playwright Robert M. Coles. Performances will run from September 13-29, 2024, with showings on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm, and Sundays at 2:30 pm at Playhouse 615, located at 11920 Lebanon Road, Mt. Juliet, TN 37122.
Aunt Sally's Wild Ride tells the uproarious and heartfelt story of Aunt Sally, whose sudden change in behavior sets her family on edge. Fearing for their inheritance and desperate to get her back on track, her niece and nephews stage an intervention that spirals into chaos with the arrival of quirky neighbors, a former beauty queen, and a male model. Set against the backdrop of a rapidly changing Nashville, the play offers a humorous yet poignant look at modern family dynamics infused with Old Nashville charm.
Directed by Joel Meriwether, this production boasts an impressive cast led by Nashville legend Linda Speir as Aunt Sally. The ensemble includes Jeremy James Carmichael (All My Children, Jack Reacher), Amber Boyer, Andrew Gately, Tony Sherman, Julie Murphy, Mick Grayson, Art Elrod, Ann Street-Kavanagh, Diane Bearden, and Tammy Sutherland. Playhouse 615 has partnered with Robert M. Coles to bring this lively and nostalgic story to the stage for its world premiere before it becomes available for licensing to theatres worldwide.
Robert M. Coles is a Nashville native whose works have captivated audiences both locally and beyond. His writing portfolio includes Lithium & Xanax & All of My Friends, which recently workshopped in New York City in preparation for an Off-Broadway run in 2025. Aunt Sally's Wild Ride is particularly significant to Coles, as it reflects his deep ties to the Nashville community and serves as a tribute to the city he calls home.
"I've enjoyed working with the team at Playhouse 615 to bring my show to life. The entire crew there has taken this script and turned it into a rip-roaring good time for Nashville audiences. This cast is perfectly assembled, and everyone embodies these characters so well," says Coles.
"We've always enjoyed fostering new works at Playhouse 615. Our dream was to build a space where people could come and create. Robert's show fits right in with our season, and it's been a joy seeing his vision come to life," shares Ann Street-Kavanagh, Managing Director of Playhouse 615.
Joel Meriwether, the play's director, adds, "Directing new works has always been so exciting for me. I get to put my stamp on a production and be the first to create the world in which it lives. These characters are rich, and the story is full of heart and life. All audiences will find someone to connect with and will enjoy themselves!"
Tickets for Aunt Sally's Wild Ride are available now at playhouse615.com/get-tickets. General admission is $20, with discounted rates of $17 for seniors and military personnel.
This production is currently in negotiations for worldwide licensing and will soon be available for theatres across the globe.
