Internationally renowned musical theatre producer/director Hugh Wooldridge will lead a master class on musical theatre for Tennessee Repertory Theatre on Monday, November 30, from 6 to 9 p.m.
Most recently, Wooldridge adapted and directed the Tim Rice/ABBA musical, Chess in Concert, at London's Royal Albert Hall, with a cast that included Josh Groban, Idina Menzel, Adam Pascal and Marti Pellow.
Wooldridge's musical theatre master class will allow participants to perform musical theatre pieces in a professional, audition-style, setting; receive feedback on their work; and collect tips on choosing appropriate musical audition pieces. Participants have the opportunity to ask professional advice on musical theatre auditions in New York and London, and learn some ways to approach the challenging professional world of musical theatre.
Participants should come prepared with two contrasting musical theatre songs of 16 to 32 bars each. An accompanist will be provided, and participants should bring sheet music in the appropriate key. The class will last three hours and the cost is $50 per person.
In addition to directing international tours including Jesus Christ Superstar and The Rocky Horror Show, Wooldridge has specialized in devising, directing and producing large-scale celebratory events around the world including the global tours of The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber in Concert, An Evening with Alan Jay Lerner in New York and London, the Richard Rodgers Award and the inaugural Bernard Jacobs Award in New York, An Evening with Hal Prince in Munich, Sondheim Tonight in New York and London, and Who Could Ask For Anything More? - the Centenary Celebration of the Gershwins at the Royal Albert Hall, London. For 21 years he was director of the Andrew Lloyd Webber/Sydmonton Festival where he directed the first productions of Cats, The Phantom of the Opera and Song and Dance.
