In keeping with the WHO KNEW tradition of presenting the smartest people on earth, we are pleased to present Jonathan Taplin as we celebrate the 40th Anniversary of The Last Waltz.

Jonathan Taplin, executive producer of The Last Waltz, will be at City Winery on Wednesday April 19th to share his memories and insights into the production of the movie and discuss his brand-new book, Move Fast and Break Things: How Facebook, Google, and Amazon Cornered Culture and Undermined Democracy, in a conversation with Craig Havighurst.

Tickets HERE!

Taplin started his career as tour manager for Bob Dylan and The Band, and produced several movies with Martin Scorsese, including The Last Waltz. Between 1974 and 1996, he produced 26 hours of television documentaries and 12 feature films including The Last Waltz. His films have been nominated for Academy Awards and Golden Globe Awards and chosen for the Cannes Film Festival six times.

Over the years, Taplin became increasingly aware of how the founders of a few internet companies -- Google, Facebook and Amazon -- were dictating what the public would see and consume, especially in the areas of film, music, television, publishing and news. His new book is being hailed as a must-read for everyone in the entertainment industry and beyond.

"Jonathan Taplin can articulate the paralyzing complexities that have arisen from the intertwining of the tech and music industries. Every musician and every creator should read this book." - Rosanne Cash, Grammy-winning Singer and Songwriter

Taplin will be available for a VIP book signing and meet & greet prior to the interview with Craig Havighurst. A screening of The Last Waltz will follow the interview.

Jonathan Taplin is Director Emeritus of the Annenberg Innovation Lab at the University of Southern California's Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism. Mr. Taplin graduated from Princeton University. He is a member of the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He currently sits on the boards of The Authors Guild, Americana Music Association and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti's Council on Technology and Innovation.

This special event is presented by WHO KNEW in conjunction with the Americana Music Association and T Bone Burnett.
