Have you ever went to a black gospel play written by mega-producers Tyler Perry, Shelly Garrett, David E. Talbert, Je'Caryous Johnson or Laterras R. Whitfield that featured popular actors, entertainers and singers and left the theater thinking "I know I can do that!"
Well here's your chance. The National Black Gospel Play Association (NBGPA), an organization dedicated to uplifting and inspiring messages through theater has extended it entry deadline for aspiring playwrights in its 2009 NBGPA play competition to Wed., Jun. 10.
Play entries should be typewritten, not exceed 120 pages, be the original work of the submitter, inspirational in message, and not contain any material inappropriate for a gospel audience.
A $40 entry fee must be submitted along with an entry form, and more than one play can be submitted with an additional entry form and fee. Entries must be postmarked by Apr. 30 and winners will be announced on Jun. 15. The entry fee(s) is non-refundable.
The grand prize winner will receive a $500 cash award, a bio listing on the organization's website, free membership with the NBGPA, and have their play produced. Two runner-ups will also receive free NBGPA memberships and a brief bio listing.
Based in Nashville, Tennessee, the black gospel music mecca of the world, NBGPA's mission is to cultivate and harness talented individuals and extract their God-given talent to inspire, motivate and entertain through the medium of theater.
