This holiday season, Tennessee Repertory Theatre will offer several unique opportunities for fans of A Christmas Story to deepen their experience with Nashville's All-American Holiday Tradition. A Christmas Story runs today, November 30 - December 22 at TPAC's Johnson Theater (with preview performance November 29).
Nashville audiences have embraced humorist Jean Shepherd's tale of growing up in the Midwest in the 1940s which follows 9-year-old Ralphie Parker in his unflappable campaign to get Santa (or anyone else) to give him a "legendary official Red Ryder carbine-action, 200 shot range-model air rifle." In honor of the 5th anniversary of Tennessee Rep's popular holiday offering and in recognition of how Nashville audiences have come to make it a part of their annual holiday traditions, Tennessee Rep has made the following opportunities available to the public:
FREE Behind the Scenes Look at A Christmas Story
On Tuesday, November 26 at 5:30 pm in TPAC's Johnson Theater, Tennessee Rep will host its LookIn for A Christmas Story. LookIns are free, fun, and insightful events that dive into the creative process behind a theatre production. The event features remarks by the play's director, an in-rehearsal scene with the actors, meet-and-greet opportunities with cast and creative staff and other Tennessee Rep supporters.
Tennessee Rep hosts LookIns in association with TPAC Education for every production, but this one will mark a first as it will be hosted on the set of A Christmas Story and will offer special glimpses behind the scenes of the set. Cast Yourself in A Christmas Story
If you have ever wanted to be on stage for a Tennessee Rep production, now's your chance! Tennessee Rep is making cameo appearances (with lines) in A Christmas Story available to the public. Only one cameo appearance per performance, so there are a limited number of opportunities to star in Nashville's All-American Holiday Tradition! For details and to reserve your cameo appearance, visit http://tennesseerep.org/a-christmas-story-experience.php.
Mrs. Parker's Little Piggy Luncheon
Ralphie said of his brother Randy, "Most mornings my kid brother wore more oatmeal than he ate. He was a notoriously picky eater who had been known to go for years without taking on provisions." Ralphie's mother would encourage Randy to eat by asking how little piggies eat.
Mrs. Parker's Little Piggy Luncheon is an exclusive opportunity to enjoy a traditional meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and red cabbage meal (among other items), just like Mrs. Parker made, while dining with fellow fans of A Christmas Story.
Mrs. Parker's Little Piggy Luncheon will take place on Sunday, December 8 at 12:30 pm. The event includes free parking, the luncheon at 417 Union, and that afternoon's performance of A Christmas Story. This event is sponsored by 417 Union and Waller. Seating is limited. For details and reservations, visit http://tennesseerep.org/a-christmas-story-experience.php.
Sponsor Your Favorite Scene of A Christmas Story
The "leg lamp" scene. The "tongue on the flagpole" scene. The "Santa slide" scene... A Christmas Story has more iconic scenes than there were Bumpus Hounds!
Tennessee Rep is offering the opportunity for fans of A Christmas Story to sponsor their favorites. For details and some of the scenes available, visit http://tennesseerep.org/a-christmas-story-experience.php.
