The talented and compassionate actors from the Broadway touring company CATS partnered with the Tennessee Performing Arts Center in collecting over $8,100 in donations for the Animal Rescue Corps and New Leash on Life this weekend during the CATS three-day run at TPAC as part of their national tour.
Immediately following the Friday and Saturday evening and Saturday and Sunday matinee performances of CATS, the actors joined Animal Rescue Corps volunteers in TPAC's Jackson Hall lobby to thank patrons who gave donations to help cover the tremendous cost incurred when nearly 125 dogs were rescued March 29 after they were found living in unsanitary conditions and lacking veterinary care.
Rescue workers said the dogs were found living in crowded enclosures, encrusted with feces and urine, and were suffering from starvation. Many had untreated illnesses. All of the dogs now have receivEd Check-ups, been tested for heartworms, and are being housed at the state fairgrounds until a custody hearing scheduled for today determines if Animal Rescue Corps may receive custody of the animals. If so, the dogs will be sent to different rescue organizations around the Mid-State.
