The latest production, "River Song: The Adventures of Tom Sawyer," premiered to a packed house, January 23 and 24. The epic musical, written and directed by Gerald Maloy, included songs by the Academy Award-winning team of Richard M. and Robert B. Sherman ("Mary Poppins"), who originally composed them for the 1973 movie "Tom Sawyer." Richard M. Sherman suggested Maloy develop the show and offered to allow his songs to be used.
Most of the cast, including Ty Youngblood (Tom Sawyer) and Wyatt Valentine (Huckleberry Finn), were from East Tennessee, but two notable Hollywood actors co-starred: Kathy Garver (CBS' "Family Affair") played Aunt Polly, while nine-year-old Drake Light ("AMC's "The Walking Dead") charmed the audience as Homer Harper.
