2015 First Night Honoree Paula Flautt directs the Moss Hart-George S. Kaufman classic comedy, The Man Who Came to Dinner, as Christ Presbyterian Academy's high school theatre stages the show about a critic and raconteur who becomes a surprising - and ultimately unwelcome - houseguest for a small-town Ohio family. The Man Who Came to Dinner opens Thursday, November 3 at 7 p.m., with two more performance scheduled for Saturday, November 5 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
The belovEd Hart-Kauffman comedy features outrageous Hollywood stars, surprise guests, hijinks and hilarity laughs that keep coming throughout the show: "It reflects with both farcical humor and much clarity about the fame, pride, integrity, selfishness, perseverance and friendship that make up life," according to a press release. "Though filled with quirky characters who crowd the scenes like a 'who's who' of 1930s American history and pop culture, it is as relevant today as when it opened on Broadway in 1939."
"As the pace of this farce picks up and the laughter rolls, the play holds a mirror to today's human condition," Flautt, who serves as artistic director of CPA's theatre program, surmises. "It becomes clear that just as in real life, there's equity on both sides of the 'good guy-bad guy' balance sheet. And the laughter becomes a virtual highlighter of the story's truth - people aren't neat and pretty, all tied up with a bow."
