October-Artober!-is jam-packed with quality programming at the Frist Center. Here, a few highlights:
The new exhibitions 30 Americans and Ana Maria Tavares: Deviating Utopias officially open on October 11, but we'll be holding a special community preview on October 10 from noon-9 p.m. Please see the attached calendar for details as well as information on visiting artists and lectures associated with these exhibitions. This is also the last chance to see the stunning photography ofJack Spencer: Beyond the Surface. The exhibition closes on Sunday, October 13.
To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, the Frist Center will host a free performance by the Destellos Culturales Folkloric Ballet Company in the Turner Courtyard on October 6, as well as a special Latin American music concert series throughout the month in the Café.
In conjunction with the upcoming exhibition American Chronicles: The Art of Norman Rockwellopening on November 1, the Frist Center will host "The Art of American Beer" event on October 25. Guests 21-years-old and up can come learn about Norman Rockwell's approach to making art, and then listen to representatives from three local breweries-Fat Bottom, Jackalope and Yazoo-talk about their own artistic process in the creation of their beers.
