The Tennessee Performing Arts Center announced on Thursday the seven Broadway titles in its upcoming 2014-15 HCA/TriStar Health Broadway at TPAC series as well as several special engagements.
In a presentation to season ticket holders, group leaders, special guests, and media, TPAC President and CEO Kathleen O'Brien unveiled the seven-show season package, featuring four productions in their first year on tour, including Kinky Boots (Winner of six 2013 Tony Awards, including Best Musical), Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, featuring Broadway/television star Diana DeGarmo and Broadway star Ace Young, Pippin (Winner of four 2013 Tony Awards), and Newsies, (Winner of two 2012 Tony Awards).
The 2014-15 season also will include the Nashville debut of ONCE (Winner of eight 2012 Tony Awards including Best Musical), plus the return of classic Broadway titles, Evita and the Broadway smash hit, Chicago, featuring Broadway/television star John O'Hurley.
From the creators of "South Park" and winner of nine 2011 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, The Book of Mormon will play a limited, one-week engagement November 18-23, 2014 as part of TPAC's special presentations. The New York Times calls it "the best musical of the century" and Entertainment Weekly says it's the "funniest musical of all time."
"The fact that four out of the seven Broadway shows offered in our season package are out for the first year of their tours speaks volumes about Nashville," said O'Brien. "Adding to that a one-week special engagement of The Book of Mormon and you can see signs that our city is perceived as a valuable community for all of the arts. That progress is a result of the relationships we've worked to build within the industry over the last 30 years, and we're eager to bring each of these titles, the hot new productions and the beloved classics, to our audiences in Musical City next season."
Additional special presentations include a holiday offering of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer in December and a return engagement of Blue Man Group in January 2015.
