Nashville Children's Theatre Partners with HLAA for October 15 Performance of HOLES

As Nashville Children's Theatre continues to celebrate its 80th birthday, the company continues to break new ground as it partners with The Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) - Nashville Chapter to present a captioned performance of Holes at NCT on Saturday, October 15, at 2 p.m., utilizing recently developed technology to strengthen the play-going experience for audience members who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Made possible with a grant from the Tennessee Disability Coalition, the Hearing Loss Association of America-Nashville Chapter will bring the first captioned theatrical performance using advanced LED technology to Nashville.

Placed near the stage, an electronic screen with three rows of text will enable audience members who are hard of hearing to follow the performance, without distracting actors or other audience members. This is similar to technology used in Broadway productions and at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.

Karyn Menck, local owner of Tennessee Captioning, brings years of experience to this project, as captionist for this performance at NCT. 

Holes (for ages 8 and up), based on the award-winning children's novel by Louis Sachar, follows young  Stanley Yelnats as he is sentenced (despite his innocence) to the wasteland of Camp Green Lake, where he and his fellow juvenile detainees are forced to dig holes in the hot desert sun day after day after day.

Holes is the first production of NCT's 80th Anniversary Season. Tickets are $12 per child or student with ID; $19 per adult.
