Nashville Ballet will celebrate the art of world-renowned painter Matt Lamb at a reception Sunday, Jan. 30 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Martin Center for Nashville Ballet Frist Gallery, where Lamb's paintings are currently displayed for the public to enjoy.

"Exposing our dancers and students to new forms of artistic expression, like Lamb's paintings, influences their creativity when performing in and creating their own art form," Nashville Ballet Director of Artistic Operations Sharyn Mahoney said. "This event will allow us to celebrate his art that has inspired not only our artists, but also the local community."

Sheila Lamb Gabler, Lamb's daughter and CEO of his company Matt Lamb LLC, will attend the event to discuss his art with attendees. The reception is free and open to the public.

Lamb is an internationally recognized artist whose works are displayed in the State Russian Museum, the Lamb-Miro Museum in Chicago, Westminster Cathedral in London, the Vatican Museums of Modern Art and Centre-Picasso in Horta, Spain.

Known for his work on canvas and in sculpture, Lamb creates expressionistic abstractions featuring animals, flowers and human figures. His works often include subjects that help spread his passionate message of peace, tolerance and hope throughout the world.

Lamb also created the Lamb Umbrellas program in response to a request by the Secretary of the Veteran's of Foreign Affairs to create a way for those affected by the September 11, 2001, tragedy to express their grief and heal from it. Those who participated in the project painted umbrellas with positive messages, then marched with the umbrellas through the streets of Washington, D.C.

Since 2001, the Umbrellas for Peace project has spread to 26 countries and helped almost 1 million people express their emotions through art. Several of his umbrellas are also on display at the Martin Center for Nashville Ballet.
