Lindsey Mapes has been named education director at Woodbury's Arts Center of Cannon County, assuming the position previously held by Scarlett Turney, who recently retired from the position after some 34 years of involvement at ACCC.

Starting in 1982 - when she performed in a production of The Sound of Music - Turney spent 17 years as a principal force among the Arts Center's staff. Among her many achievements, Turney has performed in 26 performances, directed 22 shows in 17 years, and even replaced an actor onstage six times. Turney's impact in Arts Education in the community has been monumental. She has touched countless students' lives in an incomparable way. Through the school matinee series alone, she has introduced over 200,000 students to the magic of theater. This doesn't include the hundreds of students that have been a part of the Summer Youth Conservatory that gives them an opportunity to experience the life lessons that theater offers in a hands-on way. Turney plans to continue directing shows at the Art Center.

Mapes is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University, with a degree in Theatre and a minor in music. She performed at the Arts Center of Cannon County throughout high school and into college.

Mentors she met there, such as Turney, were the ones who truly supported and inspired her to pursue her dream. Turney and Mapes were onstage together in 2011's production of Hairspray, as the Von Tussel mother and daughter duo. Since graduating from MTSU, Mapes has worked professionally at The Cumberland County Playhouse as a resident company member. It was during her time there that she discovered her love for teaching. She has taught acting and musical theatre classes in their Triple Threat education program since 2014.

Mapes is committed to continuing the legacy that Turney created and hopes to maintain and grow the education department to reach its highest potential. She will be coordinating Summer Conservatory and the School Matinee Program. She can be reached at Lindsey@artscenterofcc.com or by calling (615) 563-2787.
