The Hendersonville Performing Arts Company (formerly known as The Steeple Players) will present their next production for the holiday season. A musical setting for Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol is a natural, and this holiday The Hendersonville Performing Arts Company's production (based on the Broadway version) generously crams music into its quick spin through the venerable story.

Scott Chevalier uses his musical pipes to bring to life, Ebenezer Scrooge, the man whose miserliness needs no introduction here. There's experienced musical-comedy talent in the cast, from small roles to large, with expert stuff from Emily Ernst as the ghost of Christmas Past, Sarah Hollis as the ghost of Christmas Present, and Elizabeth Turner as Ghost of Christmas Yet to Be. Rob Pitt returns to the stage and does deftly as the chain-rattling Jacob Marley's ghost. Alan Menken, the veteran tunesmith of Beauty and the Beast fame, contributes the music, with lyrics by Lynn Ahrens (Ragtime).

The show is directed by Lynlea Keightley and Kym Sims and opens November 29th and runs through December 15th. Shows are on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays at 2:00. A Christmas Carol opens the Friday after Thanksgiving with a Wine and Cheese reception for the opening night only. HPAC is located in the City Square Shopping Center at 260 West Main St. in Hendersonville.
