Frist Center Offers Free Admission to Celebrate Inauguration 1/15

To celebrate the inauguration of Bill Haslam as Tennessee's next governor, the Frist Center will offer free admission on inauguration day, Saturday, January 15, 2011, and will extend hours until midnight that evening with a number of special activities planned from 5-9 p.m.

"We are pleased to join other cultural institutions in Tennessee to commemorate this day in our state's history," said Frist Center Executive Director Susan H. Edwards, Ph.D. "We hope visitors to Nashville (as well as our own neighbors in the local community) will take advantage of this special opportunity to see the magnificent Birth of Impressionism exhibition from the Musée d'Orsay in Paris before it leaves Nashville Jan. 23 to return to France."

The Birth of Impressionism features Manet, Monet, Renoir

The Birth of Impressionism: Masterpieces from the Musée d'Orsay is on view in the Ingram Gallery. The exhibition provides a broad context for understanding the roots of Modernism by combining seminal works by innovators such as Manet, Monet, Renoir and Cézanne with Salon painters such as Bougeureau and artists like Degas, Fantin-Latour and Whistler who all moved between convention and innovation.

Nashville is one of only three cities in the world to host this exhibition, which includes 17 paintings not seen elsewhere. When the exhibition closes at the Frist Center Jan. 23, 2011, it will return to the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
Special Gift Shop Sale

The Frist Center Gift Shop will offer a day-long progressive sale on select merchandise. A 5 percent discount will be offered from 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. From 6:00-9:00 p.m., the discount increases to 10 percent, and from 9:00 p.m.-12:00 a.m., merchandise will be discounted 15 percent. Frist Center Members may add these discounts to their already existing 10 percent member discounts.

Free Music in the Grand Lobby

From 6:00-10:30 p.m., there will be free music in the Grand Lobby provided by the Kristin Hubbard Jazz Trio, playing from 6:00-8:00 p.m., and classical Spanish guitarist Carlos Enrique, performing from 8:30-10:30 pm.
