Fighting with Forks, a creative collective of filmmakers based in Nashville and Cincinnati, decided the time was right to start working on their first full-length feature film, The Many Monsters of Sadness, launching a Kickstarter campaign to raise the necessary funds for the project - and their efforts proved a success.
To achieve their minimum funding goal, Fighting with Forks turned to Kickstarter, an online tool for funding creative projects, and reached their goal of $12,000. FwF won best film in the 2009 Nashville 48 Hour Film Project and their most recent project, a short film called The Once Mighty, was screened at the 2011 Nashville Film Festival.
"We're ecstatic at the recent outpouring of generosity from our friends, the community, and our social networks," says MOtke Dapp, director and one of the film's writers. "It's great to see people excited about independent film, and specifically about what we're doing."
The group's Kickstarter campaign comes to a close Sunday, June 19.
Fighting with Forks has been making short films since 2007. Last year, the group decided it was time to start working on The Many Monsters of Sadness. The film, a collection of stories about people who find a box that brings radical change to their lives, is being made in three parts. Two of the three chapters have already been shot, while filming for the third and longest section will start in July.
Making a film in this manner allowed Fighting with Forks to spread out shooting, use different casts and crews to help lighten the burden and get more talented people involved.
In Chapter III, a young woman named Eleanor and her friends discover a mysterious box that many of them think has the ability to grant wishes. But as every "wish" is fulfilled, something horrible happens in return. As disappearances and mysterious gifts pile up, Eleanor understands it's her responsibility to stop whatever it is that's bringing sadness to her life-and to those she loves.pictured: MOtke Dapp
