Distraction Theatre Company's sophomore season boasts comedy, murder and an original science fiction double-feature, according to details announced at Saturday night's reveal party at The Red Arrow Gallery in East Nashville.

Amid friends, fans and new board members the Distraction team discussed collaboration and community, which represented fitting themes for the night considering that the party was hosted in the gallery that housed the company's production of The Shape of Things in 2016, and the group was surrounded by a visual art exhibition by board member Mary Mooney.

"The importance of building partnerships that work can't be overstated," said managing director Amber Buker. "For a small company, people power is imperative; but it's not just something we run on, it's something we thrive on. It exponentially increases the possibilities of any endeavor."

The three-show season is set to feature: The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged), written by Adam Long, Daniel Singer and Jess Winfield, May 5-13, at The Centennial Black Box Theatre; The Drowning Girls, written by Beth Graham, Charlie Tomlinson and Daniela Vlaskalic, August 18-26 at The Darkhorse Theater; and Double Feature: Zombies Happen and Sex, Lies & Robots, an original play ritten by Christopher Cameron, set for an October 2017 run.

Distraction Theatre Company plans to stage its first original work, an ambitious double feature by Kansas playwright, Christopher Cameron. In addition, artistic director Randall Pike announced plans for a new sketch comedy program to be featured as a late night option after the mainstage production of The Drowning Girls.

"At Distraction, we always want to push ourselves and developing our sketch program is a great way to do that," Pike explained. "Each sketch show will feature a mix of live and video elements and revolve around a theme that's meant to educate the audience."

The theme of the first sketch show, titled "Welcome to Nashville" will touch on issues from Nashville's dangerous roadways to gentrification.
