Dance Theatre of Tennessee brings the sparkling magic of the season to life with its version of The Nutcracker, which will be presented to audiences in four Middle Tennessee in the coming weeks.
Highlighted by Tchaikovsky's brilliant score, the irresistible story of young Clara, a special gift and her fanciful dream to a world of sugary confections has charmed generations, Dance Theatre of Tennessee brings the endearing and enduring holiday classic to life this season with brand new sets and costumes. As part of its mission of bringing ballet to the people, Dance Theatre of Tennessee brings "The Nutcracker" to four Middle Tennessee counties: Sumner, Dickson, Montgomery and Rutherford.
Dance Theatre of Tennessee, Middle Tennessee's newest professional dance company, is led by artistic director/founder and longtime dancer Christopher Mohnani and resident choreographer Brian Williamson. Their Nutcracker is a narrated version of the full-length ballet The Nutcracker.
According to a press release, DTT's Nutcracker "provides an opportunity for the community to usher the holiday season in a more relatable, accessible and affordable way. It also provides the local youth in each county an opportunity to perform and participate and start a holiday tradition they can call their own."
After a successful performance and premiere in several counties last year, where the buzz and response from the community were "overwhelming," according to Mohnani and Williamson, DTT is bringing this production back to several cities and have added another city, thus marking the start of a new holiday tradition.
Youth performers come from different parts of Middle Tennessee and neighboring cities with some even coming all the way from McEwen, Tennessee, and Lexington, Kentucky. A surprise celebrity narrator lends its voice to add to the magic of this wonderful holiday tradition as well as a surprise celebrity appearance in the role of the Mother Ginger during select performances. In addition, young audience members are invited to come and partake on a Nutcracker story time at the lobby during the afternoon performances and have their pictures taken with the Sugar Plum Fairy.
DTT's touring Nutcracker is presented in partnership with Bridgestone Americas Trust Fund and is presented in part by Tennsco, Beach Oil Co., Inc. US Bank, First Bank, First Advantage Bank and the Tennessee Arts Commission."Part of our mission in bringing the beauty of ballet and the magic of dance to the people is providing access to professional and high quality productions to cities and communities where they would otherwise not have the opportunity," says Mohnani.
