Chaffin's Barn is mounting a veritable "Clash of the Playwrights" as the creative team at Nashville's iconic dinner theater casts a net for "innovative, never before produced comedy and mystery scripts."
"If you have a story to tell, submit your scripts to us," implores Bradley Moore, assistant artistic director at Chaffin's Barn. "Always wanted to write a play? Then now is your chance to dust off the keyboard and pull out your notebook and get to work!"
Moore and his teammates at Chaffin's Barn will accept play submissions via US Postal mail only - no email submissions, please.
"We are looking for non-published full length two act plays (no more than two hours in length) with a unit set and minimal set changes, eight characters or less and family friendly," he says.
Deadline for script submission is May 31. Winners will be notified by June 17. Scripts must be: bound or stapled and all pages must be numbered; writers must submit 2 copies of the script via US Postal Mail; list all characters with a brief character description; Include a one paragraph synopsis of the play; scripts will not be returned
Submitted plays will be read and winners selected by theatre professionals with a passion for new works. Three plays will be selected: second and third place winners will receive a staged reading of the play with a professional cast of actors at Chaffin's Barn on August 15 or 16, 2017, and the first place winner will receive a full production of the play to be staged at Chaffin's Barn August 17-19, 2017.
Scripts, along with a $5 entrance fee, should be mailed to: TAPS/Chaffin's Barn, c/o Bradley Moore, 8204 Highway 100, Nashville, Tennessee 37221.
