"HOME" continues through July 19 with an Artist Talk on June 27 from 1-3pm. July's First Saturday Gallery Crawl has been moved to July 11 due to the July 4th Holiday.

Blend Studio's premier exhibit, HOME, features a collaborative project between Millersville Elementary and Ben C. Vitualla. Millersville is a thriving community located approximately 20 miles north of Nashville and has a population of over 6,000. This project has taken place at the Millersville Elementary School in the Spring of 2009. The HOME project, created and implemented by artist Ben C. Vitualla, is a collaboration with the 5th grade class of teacher Lyn Miller and art teacher Tiffany Denton. Vitualla worked directly with the students to create three visual projects relating to the students' diverse interpretations of home, family, location, and objects. These three visual projects consist of photography by students showing their homes and areas of interest, a collage painting project featuring a map of Millersville onto which the students drew and pinpointed the location of their homes, and a video in which the students explain the photos of their homes, situations, settings, and types of housing. Vitualla's recent work involves the examination of youth culture and how youth react and develop regarding topics such as home, family, community, poverty, culture, and social status.

Blend Studio opened its doors in early June of 2009. Located on the second floor of the historic Arcade building and in the heart of the gallery district in downtown Nashville, Blend Studio offers a diverse range of contemporary art and unique opportunities for artists to merge with the community. Blend Studio features engaging and informative community-based art projects created through partnerships between artists and the community. These collaborative experiences develop dialog, awareness and growth for local and global communities.

Thursday and Friday 11am-5pm; Saturday 11am-3pm; First Saturday Gallery Crawl 6-9pm; & by appointment
