Auditions have been set for Sunday, November 15, for the Amun Ra Theatre production of Nashville playwright Carolyn German's Signs of a New Day: The Z. Alexander Looby Story.

German's play, which she will also direct, is the story of the life of renowned civil rights attorney Z. Alexander Looby.

Auditions will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. (CT) at Amun Ran Theatre Playhouse, 2508 Clifton Avenue, and appointments are strongly suggested. To reserve an audition time, call ART at (615) 329-4228, between the hours of 1 and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Actors should prepare one dramatic monologue which shows their emotional range, and they should bring two copies of their headshot and resume. This audition will be part of Amun Ra's season audition process.

Actors cast as Looby and Grafta, his wife, will play only those roles. All other actors will play a multitude of characters from various time periods and locations, etc; accents are a plus (Caribbean, New England, various Southern, middle American). Looby must have a Caribbean accent.
German is seeking "13 versatile actors," include seven African-American men; three African-American women; two caucasian men; and one caucasian woman.

Rehearsals begin Saturday, December 19, and subsequent rehearsals will be held on various weeknights and some weekends. No rehearsals will be held December 23-26 or on MLK Day 2010. The show runs January 22-February 6, 2010.
