800 Pound Gorilla Records celebrates the continued success of 5:5:1 - A Comedy Experience, the June 8 debut album from The Brilliant Idiots podcast co-host Andrew Schulz.
Culled from five different sets at five different New York City clubs in one night, 5:5:1 simultaneously entered the iTunes, Amazon Music, and Google Play comedy charts at #1. It also achieved the stunning feat of clinching the #1 spot on the Billboard Comedy Chart, an unheard-of feat for an artist's first release. 5:5:1 was additionally named Album of the Week on SiriusXM's Raw Dog Channel and one of Pandora Radio's fastest-rising comedy albums, having surpassed 500,000 streams in under a month.
Schulz returns to Montreal's annual Just for Laughs comedy festival Friday, July 27, where he brings his Views from the Cis solo show to La Chapelle Theatre at 11:30 p.m. This September Schulz headlines theaters across London, Antwerp, Amsterdam, Oslo, Copenhagen, and Stockholm. All tour dates and tickets are available at www.TheAndrewSchulz.com.
"Andrew Schulz is one of the hottest rising stars in comedy," says 800 Pound Gorilla co-founder Damion Greiman. "With his stand-up, his podcasts, and now his juggernaut first album, he jumps head first into controversial topics that most comedians shy away from and gets the entire crowd behind him, laughing all the way."
A native New Yorker and internationally touring stand-up, Andrew Schulz is known for his hilarious and unapologetic comedy. Schulz challenges conventional wisdom with an NYC tone that is often idiotic, at times brilliant, but always hysterical. He recently starred in the sitcom Benders (now available on Netflix), can be seen in Amazon's Sneaky Pete and the new season of HBO's Crashing, co-stars in the new Hulu dramedy There's Johnny, and appears in the feature films Feast of the Seven Fishes, The Female Brain and David Gordon Green's Halloween reboot. Schulz additionally starred in numerous shows for MTV including Guy Code, Girl Code and Uncommon Sense.
In the podcast realm, Schulz can be heard on the wildly popular The Brilliant Idiots - co-hosted by nationally syndicated radio and television personality Charlamagne tha God - the hilarious sports commentary podcast Flagrant 2, and the film and TV analysis podcast Westerbros. On social media, Schulz maintains a high level of engagement with his fan base of over 100,000 Instagram followers and 200,000 YouTube subscribers. His YouTube stand-up clips have over five million views.
