The Roxy Regional Theatre pays tribute to the life and music of John Denver with the feel-good hit musical ALMOST HEAVEN, opening Friday, June 10, at 8pm.
Weaving together the songs of John Denver with interviews, fan letters and passages from his autobiography, ALMOST HEAVEN was originally conceived by Harold Thau with orchestrations, vocal arrangements and music supervision by Jeff Waxman. Directed by Tom Thayer, this uniquely theatrical musical revue features Keith Panzarella, Erica Haines Cantrell, Bryan Benware, Kendall Anne Thompson and Ryan Bowie, with David Lovell on guitar, Tom Thayer on piano and Thad Wallus on bass. Over two dozen of Denver's songs -- including "Rocky Mountain High," "Sunshine on My Shoulders," "Annie's Song," "Take Me Home, Country Roads, " "Leaving on a Jet Plane," "Calypso" and more -- are rediscovered and reinvented, performed against a backdrop of stunning visual images of America in the late '60s and early '70s, a time of social unrest and political protest. On Saturday, June 18, the Roxy will host a John Denver SING-OFF. Beginning "down under" F&M Bank at 6pm with a cookout (hamburgers, hot dogs and all the fixin's), patrons are encouraged to "be a star, bring your guitar or karaoke track on CD, and sing your best John Denver!" (Anyone interested in participating in the sing-off should contact the box office at roxytheatre@bellsouth.net or 931.645.7699 by Monday, June 13, to sign up.) Tickets are $25 to include the 8pm performance of ALMOST HEAVEN.Videos
