ACT 1 will present an evening of one-act plays for two Wednesday nights in November (right smack in the middle of its eagerly anticipated run of August: Osage County) at Nashville's iconic Darkhorse Theater, 4610 Charlotte Avenue, according to ACT 1 executive director Memory Strong, who this weekend will be holding auditions for her upcoming production of Will Eno's The Flu Season.

Playing Wednesday nights, November 11 and 18, are three one-act plays, including:

  • I'm Herbert by Robert Anderson, starring Bob Fish and Meige Mabry and directed by Michael Roark, is a scattered conversation between Herbert and Muriel, an elderly couple with memory problems who try in vain to recall their earlier relationships.
  • The Loveliest Afternoon of the Year by John Guare, starring Natalie Lewis and Matt Smith, and directed by Samantha Rogers: He and She meet in the park as She is feeding pigeons. They fall in love while He spins fantastic tales that may or may not be true.
  • Home Free! by Lanford Wilson. Starring Skylar Sprague and Taylor Chew and directed by Lane Wright, is an evocative drama filled with fun, games, and surprises. Worlds collide when a brother and sister who live as a married couple are faced with a problem they're unable to navigate via the make-believe reality they've created for themselves. This haunting and heartbreaking story is one of the earliest works of celebrated American playwright Lanford Wilson.

Tickets are only $5 cash at the door - and admission is free with the purchase of a ticket for August: Osage County, which runs November 6-21 - or if you present proof of a ticket purchase to the night of one-act plays, admission to August: Osage County is only $10.

Furthermore, Strong says, that persons who would like to submit a One Act play to direct, or to be considered for a role in a future ACT 1 One Act Evening, should email her at memorystrong@msn.com.
