CBC's Shift host Tom Allen has created a unique cabaret show that will make a special stop at the Hudson Village Theatre on Sunday, February 22, 2015 at 2pm.

Bohemians in Brooklyn brings together the words and music from an extraordinary artists' commune set in an old Brooklyn house where authors like W.H. Auden and composers like Benjamin Britten hold an ongoing conversation encompassing the music, culture, literature and life of 1939-1945, a time of great tumult and change.

In addition to Auden and Britten, residents and guests in the Brooklyn house include Leonard Bernstein, Peter Peers, Paul Bowles, Aaron Copland and Gypsy Rose Lee. Their tumultuous relationships, conversation, gossip and drinking set the stage for a moment in time as World War II rages across history.

This moment in time is recreated on stage by author, story-teller and trombonist Tom Allen, host of CBC Radio 2's Shift, soprano Patricia O'Callaghan, composer and pianist Bryce Kulak and harpist Lori Gemmell. Music by Britten, Bernstein, Bowles, Kurt Weill and Bryce Kulak enhance words by Auden and those of Carson McCullers and others in this portrait of an age.

Described as a mix of storytelling, cabaret, chamber music and musical theatre, one-of-a-kind Bohemians in Brooklyn provides a unique experience for audiences and is presented by the Hudson Chamber Music Series in a special collaboration with Hudson Village Theatre.
