INTRODUCING Montreal's newest English-language professional theatre collective and it's site-specific production of POOL (NO WATER) by Mark Ravenhill. Theatre of The Black Butterfly is the brainchild of Gordon McCall, former artistic director of Montreal's Centaur Theatre Company. "Our Theatre of The Black Butterfly motto is 'Defying Convention'. We want to make provocative theatre that challenges theatrical preconceptions, that is site-specific and that celebrates Montreal," says McCall.

In this provocative play, a famous artist invites her group of lesser-known fellow artists out to California and her luxurious new home and, for one night only, the dreams of their youth are rekindled. Later that evening she invites everyone to take a midnight skinny-dip in her glorious pool. But as fate would have it, in the time it takes to spring off the highboard into the silken night air, that whimsical notion comes face-to-face with the business end of a great equalizer - cement.

As the play's publisher so aptly describes it, "Pool (No Water) is a visceral and shocking play about the fragility of friendship and the jealousy and resentment inspired by success."

The venue, Bain Mathieu, at 915 Ontario St. East, is one of the most exciting performance venues in Montreal. An empty swimming pool like none you've ever seen. Constructed in 1931 as one of 23 public baths built in Montreal between 1883 and 1933 to provide necessary hygiene for its residents, Bain Mathieu had been left vacant as of 1990 for a period 10 years. As of 2000 it was delegated to SPAG, which renovated and transformed it into a multipurpose venue for the performing arts, film production, and fundraising events, to name but a few. It is in this Incredible empty pool performance space that Pool (No Water) will be presented. It will be a truly immersive and highly entertaining interactive experience for one and all!

Pool (No Water) stars Zack Amzallag, Tara Bissett, Helena Levitt and Tamara Richards. Performance run June 5 - June at 8:00PM with additional performances on June 6 at 10:00PM, June 7 & 8 at 2:00PM.
