Seekers were the youth of the 60s who went out into the world seeking spiritual fulfillment. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE SEEKER/INTIMACY WITH A THOUSAND THINGS chronicles a middle-class, middle-aged woman's attempt to recapture the sense of well-being that comes from being a child of Seekers. Challenging traditional storytelling conventions, WHAT HAPPENED TO THE SEEKER presents its narrative as a performance triptych with an Exhibit, a Video, and a Live Performance.

Born in 1965; the era of hippies, free love, and women's rights, the Exhibit captures the joy, bewilderment and confusion of the Seeker's (Nadia Ross) first fifty years. It attempts to lay out the many ways she has tried to adapt to a rapidly changing world and find her rightful place on earth.

In the Video, the Seeker travels to the infamous Hippie Trail in India to retrace the steps of the original Seekers, but in reverse order so she can ascend to the original psychic starting point.

The Live Performance happens in the here and now as the Seeker internalizes all the information contained in the exhibit and video, discusses the benefits and bonuses of being nothing in this world, and acknowledges both the failures and successes of her search for inner peace.

In January of last year, The Theatre Centre sent Nadia Ross to India as part of its inaugural Tracy Wright Global Archive project, which sends artists abroad to investigate burning personal and social questions. Nadia's investigation in India and the resulting work in WHAT HAPPENED TO THE SEEKER has since been deeply experienced and overwhelmingly received by audiences in Austria, Germany, Norway, Montreal (Festival TransAmeriques) and Ottawa (Magnetic North Theatre Festival).

Creator Nadia Ross, Founder and Artistic Director of STO Union, spent 1994-2002 in Toronto winning awards and collaborating with other revolutionary artists such as Daniel MacIvor, Daniel Brooks, Diane Cave, Jacob Wren and Paulette Phillips. The company now shares its time between Ottawa, ON and Wakefield, QC under the creative team of Nadia Ross, Sarah Conn, George Acheson and Rob Scott; continues to win awards and accolades, and has toured their innovative productions across four continents.
