The IMAXTELUS Theatre of the Montreal Science Centre Opens JERUSALEM 3D Today

Starting today, October 10, the IMAXTELUS Theatre of the Montreal Science Centre is presenting a Montreal exclusive: Jerusalem 3D, a unique cinematic journey into the heart of a place that has captivated humanity for thousands of years. This extraordinary adventure, written and directed by Quebec filmmaker Daniel Ferguson and distributed by National Geographic Entertainment, transports viewers to Jerusalem to contemplate its sacred sites and explores its mysteries through the stories of its inhabitants.

Jerusalem 3D is an invitation to discover a mosaic of coexisting cultures and beliefs. For the first time in 3D, fly over the heart of the Old City through exceptional aerial cinematography, the first low-altitude filming of the city in nearly a quarter of a century.

In addition, Jerusalem 3D was just recognized with Best Cinematography and Best Film, Short Subject awards at the annual conference of the Giant Screen Cinema Association.

The filmmakers secured permission to shoot aerial images over the Old City of Jerusalem, in spite of a strict no-fly zone covering the region. "We were thrilled with the opportunity to provide audiences with the story of the Old City on this grand scale, and offer unique perspectives, aerials and access to this part of the world in a way you could never get in any other format," said writer/director Daniel Ferguson, who also co-produced the film. "Through the unrivalled beauty, visceral nature and incredible technology of giant-screen cameras, we were able to compose the images and move the camera in a way that makes you feel as if you are experiencing Jerusalem first-hand," he added.

Jerusalem 3D tells its story from multiple perspectives, following actual inhabitants of the Old City and interviewing a renowned archaeologist in order to understand the enduring appeal of this unique crossroads of civilizations.

Audiences will meet three teenagers who consider Jerusalem their home, Farah Ammouri, Revital Zechariah and Nadia Tadros, reflecting the three major world religions that share the Old City. From the Damascus Gate to the Dome of the Rock, the Wailing Wall, and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, they reveal the Holy City from their respective points of view.

The Jerusalem 3D production team also followed several of the most impressive excavations in and around the city, documenting their progress as well as the tools used to uncover and understand the past. The film introduces us to renowned archaeologist and professor of religious studies Jodi Magness, PhD., of the University of North Carolina, who explains the composition of the many layers that chronicle this major crossroads of civilizations.
