The Fringe Factory Is Up and Running With 44 Sell-outs, Plays Through 7/26

Business is booming at the Fringe Factory. The ticket-printing machine is on 24/7 in order to meet customer demands after a successful opening weekend.

A little rain and cold weather didn't keep theatre lovers from flocking to the Factory over opening weekend! Despite a slight dip in attendance at the Outdoor Stage during the first few days due to inclement weather, Fringers thronged the indoor shows in high numbers. July 15 was a record opening day for ticket sales (3,020 tickets sold) since expanding to the 12-day format, and July 18 smashed the record for the highest one-day ticket sales in the history of the festival, with 8,240 tickets sold. So far, overall indoor attendance is up 11% from last year's festival. Outdoor attendance picked up over the weekend, with Kids Fringe breaking its one-day attendance record on July 17 with a recorded 5,651 participants throughout the day. After the first five days, the 22nd annual Winnipeg Fringe Theatre Festival is off to a flourishing start!

31,029 tickets were sold, compared to 28,004 in 2008, with 44 sellouts.

The Best of the Fest line-up will be announced on Wednesday. Once again, 100% of Best of Fest
tickets will be available in advance.

The presentation of The Harry S. Rintoul Memorial Award by the Manitoba Association of Playwrights will take place during the finale of FRINGE AFTER DARK: The Night Shift with hosts Ken Rudderham and Tim Cranwill on Sunday at 9 pm.

Kids Fringe will continue with its fantastic programming for young Fringers and their families at Old Market Square every day from noon to six.
