The Segal Centre proudly presents the incredibly popular musical I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change with book and lyrics by Tony Award-winning writer Joe DiPietro and music by Jimmy Roberts. This hysterical exploration of love in all its many splendored forms is the second longest running off-Broadway show and will have its Montreal premiere at the Segal May 8 through May 29, 2016.
What is Love?
This celebration of the mating game deftly lampoons the oh-so-many moods, stages and stumbling blocks of the contemporary conundrum known as "the relationship". From first date jitters to nursing home affections, this laugh-out-loud revue pays tribute to those who have loved and lost, those who have fallen on their face in the quest for romance and those who have dared to ask, "Say, what are you doing Saturday night?"
One of the longest running shows in off-Broadway history!
From prolific Broadway writer Joe DiPietro (All Shook Up, Memphis and Nice Work If You Can Get It), I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change opened in 1996 and ran for twelve years (5,003 performances) off-Broadway at the Westside Theatre. Since closing in 2008, the musical has had many revivals around the world. It has been translated into at least 18 languages, including French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese and Spanish. This will be its first time playing for Montreal audiences.
Of I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change, Artistic & Executive Director Lisa Rubin says:
"This production has enjoyed such a longstanding popularity because of its universal and timeless appeal. Anyone who's ever been frustrated by the dating game or been in love and has gone on to get married and have children will relate to the different characters on stage. I am glad Montrealers will finally be able to enjoy this show that's touched audiences all over the world."
Triple-threat cast taking on multiple roles
This multi-talented cast will have the unique challenge of taking on many characters in this revue. Four of the country's finest performers will transform into 58 different characters throughout the show. Steffi DiDomenicantonio a.k.a. Steffi D (Cabaret at the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre, Spring Awakening in the 1st Broadway National Tour and former finalist on "Canadian Idol"), Will Lamond (Guys and Dolls at the Shaw Festival and recently seen in Funny Girl at the Segal), Adrian Marchuk (appeared at the Segal in The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz: The Musical and starred as Frankie Valli in the Toronto and Las Vegas productions of Jersey Boys) and Tringa Rexhepi (Taming of the Shrew at Shakespeare by the Sea and international pop singer/songwriter) will be directed by former Charlottetown Festival Associate Artistic Director, Wade Lynch (Anne of Green Gables, The Legend of the Dumbells and Eight to the Bar) in his Montreal debut.
They will be supported by an incredible creative team featuring musical direction by David Terriault (previously at the Segal as Associate Musical Director and Band Leader of Forever Plaid), set design by Marjolaine Provençal, costumes by Louise Bourret and lighting design by Nicolas Descôteaux.
