Tempers flare and worlds collide in this uproarious ode to wedding day insanity. The bride is Jewish. The groom is Catholic. Her mother is a force of nature. His mother is a tempest in a cocktail shaker. When an unexpected ex-boyfriend crashes the ceremony, an event already on the edge gets tipped right over it! Can the bride's sister and co-maid of honour turn a tangled mess into happily ever after?
This un-blissfully charming musical celebration has been translated by DWYT co-chairs Edit Kuper and Aron Gonshor. In addition to being translated into a new language, the production, under the guidance of Director and Choreographer Jim White, has increased the chorus bringing the cast total to twenty-four new and veteran DWYT community performers. White returns to the Segal for the eighth time, his past credits at the Centre include Lies My Father Told Me, On Second Avenue, and Guys and Dolls. The production also showcases the incredible Music Direction of Nick Burgess (Guys and Dolls, The Producers, and Soul Doctor).
The set design has been creatively crafted by Marjolaine Provençal (I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change at the Segal), and Costume Designer Louise Bourret (whose many Segal musical credits include I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change, The Producers, and Million Dollar Quartet) brings her signature fabulous flair to the production. They will be joined by the talented and experienced Luc Prairie (Lighting Designer), and Peter Balov (Head of Sound).
On the Decision to Present It Shoulda Been You in Yiddish, Segal Artistic and Executive Director Lisa Rubin said:
"It Shoulda Been You is a charming romantic comedy with a contemporary sensibility, replete with family dynamics that stand the test of time! How perfect then to heighten this production with the nostalgia and richness of the Yiddish language. The result is a modern Jewish musical with a twist that is sure to leave a smile on your face!"
