The Lyric Theatre Singers will present Back to Broadway, their 25th anniversary show at Concordia University's DB Clarke Theatre this weekend, June 11, 12 and 13. This spirited Broadway revue, featuring 48 performers backed by six musicians, serves up some of the best and most beloved moments of Broadway past and present.
Back to Broadway, a collection of musical theatre gems cleverly selected to pack a punch by musical directors Bob Bachelor and Chris Barillaro, is an original revue with 37 songs from 26 composers and 21 shows guaranteed to wow audiences of all ages and musical tastes. Highlights from such hit shows as Chicago, the toe tapping Hairspray and the hilariously irreverent The Book of Mormon and The Producers will be featured alongside songs from Company, Catch Me If You Can, Finian's Rainbow, Beauty and the Beast, Spring Awakening and so much more.
The Lyric Theatre Singers create one spotlight-stealing moment after another, showcasing the best of the multi-talented 48-member cast in a wide and demanding variety of material performed with the expertise and panache their fans know to expect. "We are fortunate that we can build a completely new show every year, tailored entirely to the specific strengths of the Singers," confided Bachelor. "It opens the door to an endless number of possibilities." The creative team of Bachelor and Barillaro is completed by choreographer and long-time collaborator, Mary Sarli, as well as Cathy Burns, who shares some of the staging duties.
Back to Broadway's design team is made up of lighting designer Paul Ludwig Teichgraber, sound designer Rob Burgess and costume coordinator Karen Pearce. "It's a delight and a privilege to work with these talented artists in a state-of-the-art facility," said producer Louise Dorais. "At the D.B. Clarke Theatre, The Lyric Theatre Singers receive the technical support we need to bring our creative team's ambitious vision to life. It is very exciting to combine the great performances by our cast and musicians with the enhanced production values at Concordia. The result is 100% pure entertainment."
