The 2016 Academy Award-winning writer, Tarell Alvin McCraney (Moonlight), opens the landmark season in October with CHOIR BOY, playing from October 9th to the 28th. Mike Payette, Artistic Director of Geordie Productions, directs with support from Floydd Ricketts as the Musical Director.
The five student choir boys will be played by bilingual actor Patrick Abellard (Xavier Dolan's The Life and Death of John F. Donovan; and Centaur Theatre's Urban Tales 2017); triple threat Vlad Alexis (Stonewall, Centropolis Entertainment; Hairspray, Just for Laughs; and Captain Aurora: A Superhero Musical, Kaleisoscope Theatre); New York actor working both sides of the border, Steven Charles (Dream Girls, national tour and Japan); 2017 graduate of Montreal's esteemed Conservatoire d'art dramatique, Lyndz Dantiste (District 31 and Unité 9, SRC; Les fourberies de Scapin, TNM); and musical theatre/opera performer, Christopher Parker (Annie Get Your Gun, Western University; Company and Les Misérables, Intimate Opera Indianapolis). BTW's Artistic Director, Quincy Armorer, (The Adventures of a Black Girl in Search of God, Centaur Theatre/NAC) returns to the Centaur stage to play the boys' Headmaster and Paul Rainville (The Adventures of a Black Girl in Search of God, Centaur Theatre/NAC; The Comedy of Errors and Scorched, Centaur), portrays Mr. Pendleton.Just when they felt they had contributed all they could as nuclear scientists and simpler, slower lives beckoned, an old colleague emerges with a crucial proposal of devastating consequences. UK playwright Lucy Kirkwood's wickedly witty and thought-provoking three-hander, THE CHILDREN, recently nominated for a 2018 Tony Award, takes the November time slot from the 6th to the 25th and Centaur's Artistic and Executive Director, Eda Holmes, will direct.
The ensemble acting trio is a who's-who list of Canadian greats that includes: Geordie Johnson, who has worked across Canada as well as internationally in the US, Europe, Great Britain, the Middle East and New Zealand; Laurie Paton, an 18-year Shaw Festival veteran most recently seen in the Canadian Stage/Citadel Theatre production of The Humans; and Canadian theatre and television star, Fiona Reid, last seen at Centaur Theatre in Innocence Lost, A Play about Steven Truscott (2013).Are you an avid theatergoer?
