The Verge Theater is proud to present three exciting new events this month: Neil Labute's The Shape of Things, Improv on the Verge, and Dorothy Meets Alice or The Wizard of Wonderland for the children's matinee.

On Verge Theater's main stage is The Shape of Things, written by famed screenwriter Neil LaBute (In the Company of Men, Your Friends & Neighbors.) The Shape of Things takes a critical look at the nature of art, intimacy, self-perception, and the search for love through a relationship between Adam, a self-conscious English major, and Evelyn, a beautiful graduate art student. After a chance meeting in an art gallery, Adam and Evelyn embark on an intense romantic affair. At first the coldly clinical Evelyn encourages the awkward Adam to get in shape, dress better, and take care of himself; however as the relationship progresses Evelyn's machinations to change Adam become increasingly sinister, driving a wedge between Adam and his close friends Jenny and Phillip. Dark, profound, heartbreaking, and terribly funny, The Shape of Things challenges the viewer to explore their own perceptions of manipulation, art, and love.

Shows run on Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm from February 7th-22nd. Tickets are $12 and $10 for Students and Seniors. Reservations are online at vergetheater.com or by phone at 587-0737, ext.1.

Once again, Verge Theater is offering up a Monday Night sacrifice of the most daring, death defying type of live theater there is: Improv! They call it Improv on the Verge! Improv Monday Nights begin with one of the Harold Angels taking a suggestion from the audience and performing a short, comedic monologue which leads to the whole team improvising sketches built around the monologue. This is followed up by an improv performance of games and sketches by the masterful Mainstage Players.

It's a mere 5 dollars to get in and laugh like hell at the team of Southwest Montana S.W.A.T. trained Improv Players. (S.W.A.T. = SouthWest Alternative Theater). Shows in February are on Monday the 10th and 17th. All shows begin at 7pm. Reservations can be made online at vergetheater.com or by phone at 587-0737, ext.1.

This new play version of the delightful meeting of two of literature's most famous young ladies, Dorothy Meets Alice or The Wizard in Wonderland, unfolds when a young woman puts off a book report till the last minute, then suddenly finds herself in a strange place somewhere between Oz and Wonderland. It then becomes her responsibility to unscramble the stories and steer the familiar characters-the Cowardly Lion, the Mad Hatter, the Scarecrow and the White Rabbit, among others-to their ultimate destinations while avoiding the Wicked Witch and the Red Queen. This hilarious, adventuresome romp is filled with laughter and surprises at every turn. And a couple of lessons emerge along the way as well.

Shows run on Saturdays at 2pm from Feb. 8th - March 1st. Approximate running time is 50 minutes. Reservations can be made online at vergetheater.com or by phone at 587-0737, ext.1. The Verge Theater is located at 2304 N. 7th Ave. in the strip mall across from Murdoch's.
