The Montana Repertory Theatre presents a staged reading of Missoula writer Gaaby Patterson's first play, FUNNY BELLIES, a dark comedy about marriage, pregnancy obsession, multiple miscarriages and the women who get you through it all. Come laugh with us about horrible things and then join us for a talk-back with the playwright following the reading.
The reading is part of the Winter Colony, the offshoot of the Missoula Colony. The Missoula Colony is "A gathering of artists in support of the writers craft", held every summer to develop the next generation of American writers. The Winter Colony was started to provide a venue for local writers to hear their new works read aloud by trained actors in a safe environment, and to have their material read in front of the supportive and discerning audience that Missoula provides.
FUNNY BELLIES was first read at the Missoula Colony 19, as a one-act play. Subsequent rewrites have resulted in a full-length piece. September 20 will be the first public reading and will feature local actors Rosie Ayers, Carmen Corona, Kendra Potter, and Tyler Potter. It will be directed by Paige Williams.
