The School of Theatre & Dance has announced that nationally recognized character actor Mark Metcalf will be playing the part of Ebenezer Scrooge in its upcoming production of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, as adapted by UM Associate Professor of Theatre Jere Lee Hodgin.

Metcalf, a well-known actor, director, and producer, recently made Missoula his home when his son began his studies in the Wildlife Biology Program at the University of Montana.

Metcalf is perhaps most famous for his portrayals of Doug Neidermeyer in National Lampoon's Animal House, The Maestro on Seinfeld, and for his recurring role of The Master on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Metcalf is currently working on the production with director Cohen Ambrose, a third-year graduate student at the UM School of Theatre & Dance, on creating a unique interpretation of the world's most famous miser.
